Howdy, all! We’ve been busy working towards our Autumn/Winter launch! Keep your eyes peeled for a brand new collection—delivered by none other than Nubian Skin.
In other news, this past week we’ve been chatting all things haircare in the office so it’s only right to showcase our favourite British haircare brands!
Afrocenchix is a black owned, haircare brand, founded by Jocelyn Mate and Rachael Corson. Afrocenchix was an idea that came to the duo when they first met in university. They shared similar frustrations trying to find products that would work for afro hair—it came to a dead end. Luckily for the bright-eyed students, they set out to create natural haircare products for all hair types, especially afro hair. After being awarded for ‘Ethical and Sustainable Business Innovation’ from the University of Birmingham in 2010 and the Bright Ideas Award from UCL in 2015, they were voted BBFA Best Natural Hair Brand in 2018! Incredible journey, right? We’re so proud of Jocelyn and Rachael for pushing boundaries and creating products that truly cater to all the curls, kinks and coils of the world. Moisturising one curl at a time.
The most common reason for uncooperative hair is a serious lack of moisture. Afrocenchix supplies their Seal Natural Hair Oil designed to lock in moisture on dry frizzy, curly and Afro hair. Seal is a 100% natural hair oil, packed with super ingredients like Coconut and Jojoba oil, which combats breakage and aids growth through sealing in moisture.
Up next, we have MamaSia, an Award Winning Natural Beauty and Wellbeing company founded by Maame Pokuaa and Sam Brehanu. The brand is based in the UK, but all ingredients are sourced from and their natural beauty essentials are produced in Africa.
MamaSia offers a stellar hair treatment called MamaSia Hair Food! The blend of Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil and more have been exclusively designed to combat breakage and stimulate hair growth all while conditioning it—the mix is suitable for Dry/Damaged/Normal Hair and can be used as a conditioning tonic or daily moisturiser for your hair.
You need pressure to make diamonds. In this case, it took “sheer frustration” to give Melissa Sinclair (Fro Founder) the push she needed to create BIG HAIR + BEAUTY. Frustration turned to fascination and sent her on her way.
Little did she know, her idea to create a holistic and toxic free haircare brand for afro and curly hair, would bring in an audience from all over the globe.
Big Hair has us shaking over the luxurious Deep Conditioning Clay Mask; designed to instantly revive your curls, kinks and coils! They’ve packed their clay mask with a bunch of moisturising and nourishing ingredients like Cocoa Butter, Avocado Oil and Brilliant Banana, all while adding Moroccan Rhassoul Clay for an unreal please, lifting away product build-up to leave you with super soft kinks and defined and bouncy curls!
Many products that claimed to cater to textured hair used to be made with damaging ingredients. Once discovering that, founder, Rose Ovensehi created a haircare range of haircare free from artificial fragrances and full of plant-derived goodness! Rose has also taken that initiative to do her part in reducing her “plastic footprint” by using eco-friendly packaging and delivery materials that are minimalistic, biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable. Their formulas are cruelty-free and never tested on animals!
Flora & Curl carries an all-time haircare essential, their Hydrate Me Organic Rose & Honey Leave-in Detangler. Anyone who has remotely curly hair understands the struggle of a mad tangle. This leave-in doubles as a conditioner that is fortified with Organic Rose Damask Water, and infused with Honey, Sunflower, Oat, Marigold and Vitamin B to smoothen the cuticle, add shine, definition and easy manageability. Plant powered, cruelty-free, synthetic fragrance free, phthalate free, sulphate and silicone free, and no harsh chemicals? What more could we ask for?
